Bob joined the Wisconsin National Guard in 1956 in Hartford, Wisconsin. The Hartford Guard was a combat support unit with the “32” Division. In 1961, President Kennedy called the “32” Division to active duty at Fort Lewis, Washington. While there, Bob was commander of an M56 Anti-Tank Weapon called the Scorpion. This tracker weapon had a 90-millimeter gun, and with no armor, was designed to be very mobile. The purpose was to travel with infantry units to knock out enemy tanks.

Bob received an honorable discharge in 1962. He is a member of the American Legion Post 0382.
