Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Wilderness Veterans Memorial Flame Foundation, Inc,?
We are a nonprofit Foundation, rooted in Winegar American Legion Post 480, Presque Isle , Wisconsin. Participants include vets and non-vets dedicated to creating a unique Memorial to honor all American Veterans. It will provide a fitting site for veteran services, community education and quiet contemplation.

What is the Mission of the Wilderness Veterans Memorial Flame Foundation?
The Wilderness Veterans Memorial Flame Foundation embraces the essence of PATRIOTISM by garnering volunteer and financial support to erect and perpetually maintain a unique and notable veterans memorial and to provide a place for participation and education in veterans service related activities. Located in Wisconsin's peaceful Northwoods, it is a fitting place to honor the men and women who have selflessly dedicated themselves for the freedom of all citizens of the United States of America.

Why is this Vets Memorial unique and special?
The Memorial's wooded lakeshore site naturally offers an environment conducive for reflection. It is the Memorial itself which gives pause and inspires. Historical conflict markers describe and validate the record of our U.S. veterans. Monuments recognize specific remembered veterans. An eternal flame keeps vigil day and night in memory of all who served. Click The Memorial for more information.

Whose names can I place on the Memorial?
The name of any veteran of the U.S. military who served honorably may be inscribed. This may be a friend, relative or perhaps a national military hero who has been a personal inspiration. Click Application for Enshrinement for more information. Non-Veterans who have strong relationships with military history may also be recognized  on the Underwriters Monument adjacent to the Memorial. Click Non-Veteran Recognition or call 715-686-2517 for further information.
