I was then sent to VAW-126, an E-2C Hawkeye squadron. The mission of VAW-126 was to gather information through the use of radar and relay it to the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy, CV-67. There I served as a flight deck troubleshooter on the E-2C Hawkeye. Along the way I received such medals as: Meritorius Unit Commendation, Battle Efficiency Ribbon, Navy Expeditionary Medal (Lebanon), and Sea Service Ribbon. Initiated into the Ancient Order of the Deep, October 8, 1963, Shellback. Achieved the rank of Third Class Petty Officer. Went on to serve two years with VP-60 at Glenview Illinois Naval Air Facility.
