GSE2 Dennis John Harris enlisted in the US Navy after graduating from Lakeland Union High school, Minocqua, WI in 2016. After completing boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Station, he remained there and completed technical training as a Gas Turbine Technician. He was then assigned to the destroyer USS John Paul Jones, DDG-53, in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii from July 2016 to July, 2021. While stationed aboard the John Paul Jones, he achieved the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class and became a work center supervisor in the engine room. When COVID-19 forced a lockdown in Spring 2020, Petty Officer Harris remained aboard ship and helped his ship complete the certification for their deployment as part of the USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group. From July 2020 to April 2021, the ship deployed to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. In July 2021, Petty Officer Harris was reassigned to the destroyer USS Donald Cook, DDG-75, at Naval Station Mayport, Jacksonville, Florida. During this assignment, the ship was deployed to the Baltic Sea for four months as part of a NATO response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Petty Officer Harris was twice awarded the US Navy Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Navy Pistol Sharpshooter Ribbon, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. Birthdate, 12/30/1997. Discharge date 9/13/2023. Dennis is the son of Andrew Harris and Susanna Harris.
Mr. Harris is a member of the Winegar Post 480 American Legion, Presque Isle, Wisconsin.
