Mr. Merkowitz served on two West Pac tours each lasting one year. The mission statement was to support land troops in South Vietnam and engage surface to air missile sites in North Vietnam.
On the second tour he received the Navy Achievement Medal on September 18, 1968 for support of the Marines in the battle for the city of Hue during the TET offensive.
After discharge, he returned to Wisconsin, worked for Wisconsin Telephone Company, and purchased land on High Lake in the Town of Land O Lakes, WI.
Currently he spends time between West Bend, WI and Land O Lakes, WI.
